Most experts will advise you to select the largest cage you can. At a minimum, look for bird cage that is 18” wide, 18” deep, and 24” high (or larger). If you are able, consider a larger cage especially when accommodating multiple birds it is a plus.
Parakeets are small birds so bar spacing is extremely important. Bar spacing that is too wide is dangerous for parakeets. Look for cages with bar spacing that is no greater than ½” in size.
Finally equip your cage with a variety of perches (size and placement) and a wide variety of chew toys and soft wood products, creating a home environment that keeps them busy and entertained.
